Exam terms

Credentials

You earn a credential by passing an exam. A course, practice or an employer's report never earns one. The same exam and pass mark apply however you arrived.

Attempts

One exam credit is one attempt. A retake is a new credit after a wait. Applied AI Badge: 7 days. Applied AI Certified: 30 days. Applied AI Specialist: 30 days. Applied AI Strategist: 60 days. You can retake as often as you like. Every attempt is a fresh set of tasks. When the clock reaches 0, we submit work saved on the server by the deadline.

Marking

AI examiners mark your transcript, your work and your follow-up answers against a marking guide. A named person countersigns Applied AI Specialist and Applied AI Strategist, which you hold for life. On the paid exams, a person reads every safety event, integrity flag and pass-mark result before you see it. On the free exam, a person reviews every result before you see it. You can ask a person to look again at any result. You receive a rating per area, never a mark.

Reviews and appeals

Ask for a review within 14 days of your result. An examiner who did not mark your exam decides within 21 days. A formal appeal may follow within 21 days of that decision. Staff who were not involved in your exam, and who did not decide the review, decide it within 45 days. While either is open, your result reads “under review”. Asking never counts against you. We charge no fee during the founding period. Every deadline, before you take an exam.

Validity

Applied AI Foundations gives a practice badge that does not expire. The Applied AI Badge and Applied AI Certified are valid for 24 months. Applied AI Specialist and Applied AI Strategist are held for life; you renew every 24 months. Renewal opens 90 days before your renew-by date. Above Applied AI Foundations we email you at 90 days, 30 days and on the day. Renewal is a new exam linked to your earlier serial; we never edit a credential in place. A standard that later tightens never cancels a credential you have earned.

Your record

We keep your exam record for as long as reviews and the law require. That record is the brief, transcript, work, follow-up answers and integrity signals. A review can then re-examine the events in dispute.

Privacy

Who you are to us

AI examiners and the people who check results see you as a candidate number. Your name appears on your credentials, and on the public register only if you choose to be listed.

What we record

Your conversation with the assistant, your answers and your follow-up answers. Integrity signals without a camera: tab focus, pasted text, browser signals and IP address. That record is the evidence behind your result, kept for reviews.

Cookies

Two cookies of our own tell us how people find the free exam: one counts a visit, the other keeps the advertisement or link you arrived from. No third-party tag or advertising cookie runs on the site.

Automated marking

AI examiners mark the evidence. While the Examination Board has not approved automatic release, a person reviews every result before you see it. You have the right to a person. Ask for a review, and a named examiner who did not mark your exam reads your work again. A person countersigns Applied AI Specialist and Applied AI Strategist. On the paid exams, a safety event, an integrity flag or a result on the pass mark goes to a person before release.

Sponsors

If an organisation entered you, it learns pass or not yet only if you agreed before you started. It sees your rating in each area only if you also chose to share it. It never sees your transcript. An employer that invited you to its own exam receives that report, as the invitation states.

Updates by email

Results, receipts, exam links and sign-in links always arrive. Updates about new exams and free practice arrive only if you ask for them, at the claim or in your portal settings, and every one carries a link that stops them. We keep the address on our mailing list until you stop them or request erasure.

Fairness data

If you share attributes for the fairness audit, we store them apart from your exams. Reviewers and examiners never see them. We use them only in aggregate, with small groups suppressed.

Identity checks

Where a credential needs an identity check, we use identity data only to verify identity. A national ID number is never a login. We store it apart from exam content and results. We keep it only as long as integrity, reviews and the law require.

Your rights

Settings in your portal lets you download everything we hold about you and change your name and country. You also choose whether you are listed, request an accommodation, or request erasure. Erasure removes your transcripts, answers, signals and identity data. Results and credentials stay so a credential keeps verifying, with your name withheld and the credential hidden from public verification. An exam under review is held until the review is decided. You may complain to the supervisory authority where you live. Exports carry ratings and results, not raw marks, to protect the exam.

Retention and processors

We keep exam evidence for the period the Examination Board sets, then delete it. The register is kept for the life of the credential. Who processes your data, and where, is listed under Security and data. We record the version you accepted, and ask again when the text changes.

Verification

The public verification page shows the holder's name, the credential, its status and its ratings by area. You can hide a credential from verification at any time from your portal.

Conduct

The tools allowed

Using AI is not cheating. Using hidden AI is. The assistant on the exam page is the one permitted tool, and we expect you to use it. Any other tool, tab or assistant is off-limits; attempts to use one are recorded and read by an examiner.

Not allowed
  • Having someone else take any part of the exam, or sharing an exam.
  • Impersonating another person, or using another person's exam credit.
  • Copying exam material out of the exam, or publishing briefs, tasks or follow-up questions.
  • Addressing the examiners inside your answers, or trying to change the rules you are marked by.
Suspicion

An unusual pattern triggers harder follow-up questions about your work, never an accusation. A named examiner decides any flag on the record we keep; a machine never fails you for suspected misconduct. Breaches are handled in proportion, from a written warning to permanent revocation for exam fraud or selling exam content. You are told what is alleged and can respond before a finding. A lapsed renewal, an appeal or a complaint in good faith is never a conduct issue.

How to name your credential

Use the full name of what you hold, as it reads on your certificate. Applied AI Engineer is an Institute credential, not a professional engineering licence. It does not entitle you to a protected engineering title in any country. Never shorten it.

Your own work

You are accountable for everything you submit. The assistant's draft is not your answer. It becomes yours when you check it, change what needs changing and decide what to send.
